Meet our Fabulous Alpacas and Angoras

All eleven of the alpacas at Big Horn Mountain Alpacas are Huacaya alpacas registered through the Alpaca Registry.  They were selectively bred for their quality fiber, proper conformation and easy going dispositions.

In addition to the alpacas we also raise Angora Rabbits for their soft fibers that are obtained by giving them haircuts every 90 days.  We raise Giant Angoras, French Angoras and Giant/French Hybrids.  Scroll Down to see our angoras after the alpaca photos.

SummerRain

SummerRain was born during a welcome downpour in Mid-July.  She is a curious and friendly dark fawn cria with anticipated fiber like her siblings.  We've enjoyed the offspring of our own Aurigan and JC Studlee so much that she is another repeat breeding.

Aurigan

Aurigan is our proven dark fawn female, a very big girl. Aurigan has produced award winning fiber in her crias.  Aurigan's cria's speak for her genetics.  All of her crias have Aurigan's crimpy, soft, uniform fiber.

BHMA Night's Abby

Night's Abby is a stunning medium fawn cria who was born in June 2006 to our female, Aurigan.  Abby's first shearing had a 6 1/2 inch staple length and was very crimpy and extremely soft.  Her fiber has a lot of memory making it good for those stretchy items worn next to the skin such as knit hats.   Abby loves people and especially likes to play and frolick with our daughter and the 2 Great Pyrenees Guard Dogs.  Abby always meets us at the gate to say hello.  She is very people friendly, enjoys attention and is just plain fun to have around.

Wagon Box Walker

Wagon Box Walker is the 2007 prodigy of our dam Aurigan and Herdsire, JC Studlee.  He has a deep rich dark chocolate color that is oh so soft to the touch.  His fiber has shown a consistent fineness.  His two year fiber test had a mean fiber diameter of 19.6 microns.  We expect WagonBox Walker to produce baby alpaca fiber for several years to come.

JC Studlee

JC Studlee is our proven herdsire.  We purchased him in 2005 to add color to our herd with his colorful Chilean background, and for the award winning fiber background on  his father's side.  JC has fulfilled our objectives and more.  He's produced his first prodigy here, WagonBox Walker, born in June 2007 and has been an ambassador for us. His easy going disposition has allowed us to take him to nursing homes, be in parades and show to visitors.  JC is our All American Boy.

Casper

We purchased Casper in 2005 because of his outstanding fiber production and full Peruvian background.  Casper is a Junior Herdsire.

Moose

Moose was born July 2008.  His fiber is a handspinners dream with it's long staple and fineness measuring at 19.3 microns for his first shearing.  He is a beautiful dark fawn male son of Aurigan and our herdsire, JC Studlee.  Moose spends his time grazing and cushing in the fields with is best friend and full brother, WagonBox Walker.

Azariah

Azariah is a light fawn male cria born in 2005 from our female, Aurigan.  Azariah's fiber handspun by Mariann won a blue ribbon at Alpaca Mania 2006.   His  beautiful fiber has shown astonding cosistentency in fineness as he ages.  At four years of age his micron continues for stay under 20 microns which is considered baby alpaca

Thunderbolt

Thunderbolt is our tallest alpaca who likes to look eye to eye with you.  He is dark fawn and very handsome.

Amos and Simon
Sir Amos and Peruvian Simon are our three year old white geldings.  They produce lots of soft, long staple lengthed fleece great for spinning with a soft handle and lots of crimp.  Both are friendly and easy going alpacas who like to hang out together.  Simon is a bit smaller than Amos but produces a a bit more fiber - 9 pounds of very clean, white as snow soft fleece.
