About Big Horn Mountain Alpacas
Who We Are
Big Horn Mountain Alpacas is a mother-daughter run farm located at the base of the Bighorn Mountains in Wyoming. It is a business but more importantly a way of life for us. Though we share some of our life on social media, we are closed to visitors. Our farm family includes 25 alpacas, 2 geese, 7 ducks, 16 chickens, 5 cats, 3 horses (one mustang that we adopted as an untouched wild horse), one very smart and sweet donkey, 2 Macaws and 9 livestock guardian dogs who watch over us all. We care for and love each animal from birth to their passing. Each animal is gently hand sheared by us, and the fiber processed onsite into finished products that we sell online and at local events. If you buy an item from this site, I try to ship same day or within the business day. We are thankful for our customers who shop with us.
Our History
Before starting this farm, I was a public school teacher for 13 years. At the birth of my daughter Maria in 2005 , I chose to stay home to raise her. A small foundation alpaca herd was purchased when she was 2 months old. That herd grew and we also purchased alpacas, and rescued some that now make up the Big Horn Mountain Alpaca herd that we have today. We respect the forever bond that the alpacas have with their families and herd-mates, hence we do not sell alpacas.
Our farm runs on respect, trust and mutual admiration between the animals and us. That means that our days are filled with individual greetings, playtime and spending quality time together. There is a peace here that we treasure. We take time during our days to thank God for our blessings and pray for the health and safety of our animal family.
We enjoy working close to God's amazing creations. That means that we cut our own firewood out of the mountains, transport spring water for drinking and spend a lot of our days outside and with our herd and flock.
If there is an item that you are interested in having made but don't see it in our ranch store, please feel free to let me know. I work closely with our USA alpaca fiber coop and also sell their products. So even if you don't see it here, I may be able to get it.
